With the Amazon Web Series Outage, several apps were disrupted and went offline. However, Elon Musk made a clear statement, leveraging the moment to advance his message that X Chat stayed online due to its zero dependencies on AWS. This was at the time when several apps like Snapchat, Signal and others faltered. Musk in his post on X touted X Chat as a “safe, encrypted” and “free-to-use platform” as well as free from “AWS dependencies“.

Musk boldly claims X Chat to be better than Signal, his previous preferred option as he considered it as his privacy darling. However, observers are keen on the irony where X Chat experienced a series of recent outages after the 2022 takeover by Elon Musk. There were frequent technical issues after massive layoffs and platform evolution. Even Starlink, a powerful satellite-internet company experienced service disruptions last month.

At the same time, AWS claims to have resolved the issues even though there are reports from users that clearly point out the intermittent disruption. AWS points out that the main cause has been resolved despite a few reports on the experiencing patchy performance.

Bottom line: Amidst the chaos of the AWS cloud failure, Musk found more clarity and promoted X as the future or messaging, pointing to the fact that big giants like Amazon can stumble.
