Russian diamond producer Alrosa has announced the completion of the cutting process for the country's largest-ever diamond, a 100-carat vivid yellow stone named 'New Sun'. This remarkable gem was fashioned from a 200-carat rough diamond discovered in an ancient riverbed at the Ebelyakh mine in the Far East republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
Over a two-year period, 15 of Russia's top jewelers meticulously worked to achieve the perfect balance of light, color, and shade in the diamond. The result is a stone with impeccable proportions that accentuate its depth and the brightness of its sunny hue.
The cutting of 'New Sun' marks a significant advancement in the 'Russian Cut' technique, renowned for its precision and brilliance. Alrosa highlighted this event as one of the most significant in the gemstone industry in recent years, underscoring Russia's prominent status in the global diamond market.
Despite facing an EU and G7 import ban, Alrosa remains the world's largest diamond mining company by volume. The company plans to produce 29 million carats of diamonds in 2025, following a reduction in production in previous years.
The unveiling of 'New Sun' not only showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of Russian jewelers but also reinforces Alrosa's position at the forefront of the global diamond industry.
