There’s nothing worse than arriving at the shore only to realize you forgot sunscreen, a towel, or something to keep you entertained. Having a well-stocked beach bag ensures a stress-free, fun-filled day under the sun.

To stay comfortable and prepared, it’s important to bring items that offer protection, convenience, and relaxation. This guide will go over five important items you should always have in your beach bag.

1. Sunscreen

The sun’s rays can cause sunburn and skin damage, so protecting your skin is a must. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to block both UVA and UVB rays.

It is recommended to apply sunscreen thirty minutes before going outside and to reapply it every two hours. If you are swimming or sweating, use a water-resistant sunscreen and reapply more often. Spray sunscreens are easy to use, but lotions provide better coverage.

Don’t forget areas like ears, back of the neck, and feet, as they burn easily. Lip balm with SPF is also helpful to prevent chapped lips. Sunscreen helps keep your skin healthy and prevents painful sunburns.

2. Beach Towel

A beach towel is a must for drying off and relaxing on the sand. Choose a large, quick-drying towel made of microfiber or cotton. These materials absorb water well and dry faster.

A sand-resistant towel is a great option if you don’t want sand sticking to it. Some towels also come with pockets or loops for easy carrying. Bring an extra towel if you plan to swim a lot or need a clean one for sitting.

Rolling your towel instead of folding it saves space in your bag. If you have a beach blanket, you can use your towel only for drying.

3. Water Bottle

The heat can make you feel tired, so having a refillable water bottle helps keep you cool and refreshed.

Choose an insulated water bottle to keep drinks cold for hours. Stainless steel bottles work well for keeping water fresh. If you prefer a flavored drink, add some lemon or cucumber slices for a refreshing taste.

Try to drink water every 30 minutes to avoid dehydration. Avoid sugary drinks, as they can make you feel more thirsty. If you plan to stay long, bring extra water or a hydration pack.

4. Swimsuit Cover-Up

A swimsuit cover-up is useful when walking around the beach or taking a break from swimming. It provides extra coverage while keeping you comfortable.

Choose a lightweight and breathable fabric like cotton or chiffon. These materials dry quickly and keep you cool. Some cover-ups come as dresses, sarongs, or oversized shirts, so pick one that suits your style.

Cover-ups protect your skin from too much sun exposure when you’re not in the water. They are also helpful if you plan to grab a quick snack or visit a nearby shop.

5. Snacks

Bringing snacks to the beach helps keep your energy up, especially if you plan to stay for a long time. Choose healthy and easy-to-carry snacks that won’t melt or spoil in the heat.

Great beach snacks include granola bars, trail mix, dried fruit, and nuts. These are lightweight, non-messy, and provide lasting energy. If you bring fresh fruit, store it in a cooler bag to keep it fresh.

Avoid chocolate or heavy snacks, as they can melt or make you feel sluggish. Drinking water along with your snacks helps prevent dehydration.
