GMB Limited, the Abu Dhabi-based trade finance institution that specializes in the commodity sectors, has appointed Philippe Berta as a new Board Member.
This appointment appears to be a very good fit. GMB focuses on the energy, metals, mining, and agricultural commodity trade, and Berta has more than 30 years of experience working at the very center of just such sectors. His strong legal and compliance knowledge in commodity trade finance and structured finance is very similar to what GMB does for its corporate clients.
Philip Berta is currently the Head of Legal at SCCF SA in Geneva. He has also held senior roles at BNP Paribas Switzerland, where he was General Counsel and a member of the Executive Committee of CIB Legal, and at Banque Cantonale Vaudoise, where he headed the legal trade finance team.
In the case of a regulated entity such as GMB, which is licensed by the FSRA with a Category 2 license in ADGM, the presence of a board member who has hands-on experience in financial crime risk, regulatory compliance, and trade finance law gives substantial strength to the governing body of GMB. Berta is a member of the ICC Banking Commission Legal Committee and the Financial Crime Risk and Policy Compliance Group, which are directly related to the environment in which GMB operates.
He also lectures on legal and compliance topics in the Diploma of Advanced Studies in Commodity Trading at the University of Geneva.
GMB expressed its eagerness to benefit from his knowledge and contribution to the board.
