European Union countries have agreed on levying retaliatory tariffs on $23 billion worth of American products in retaliation for President Donald Trump's 25 percent tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. These EU tariffs will be imposed in phases beginning on April 15th, with the subsequent two phases on May 15th and December 1st. European Commission has not yet made public the complete list of products targeted by the tariffs.
The bloc of 27 countries has expressed its support for the negotiated solution of the trade conflict, stressing that America's tariffs are unwarranted and disruptive, inflicting economic damage on both sides as well as the global economy at large. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has made an offer concerning zero-for-zero tariffs on the industrial products, automotive included. Meanwhile, President Trump has made it clear that this offer does not address America's concerns adequately enough.
