Last Friday, I witnessed the dramatic scene of German engineer Mark being deported at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris - his visa was valid from "March 15", and his flight was "March 15 at 1:20 am". This expensive lesson worth €2,000 can actually be avoided by understanding the special requirements of Chinese visas in advance...
The effective time of Chinese visas is strictly calculated according to Beijing time, and most European and American travelers will ignore this key detail:
Take Frankfurt to Beijing as an example. The flight takes off at 14:00 local time.
The flight time is about 10 hours, and it is 6:00 the next day Beijing time when arriving.
If the visa is effective on the same day, it theoretically constitutes an overstay of 6 hours.
China's border inspection has a "zero tolerance" policy for such situations.
During the 2024 Spring Festival, British teacher Linda's visa expires on February 5, but she doesn't know:
February 4-18 is China's statutory Spring Festival holiday.
The Exit-Entry Administration will not accept any extension application during this period.
Finally, a fine of ¥500/day will be incurred for overdue (minimum penalty starts from 5 days).
More serious cases may be included in the entry blacklist.
Emergency Plan:
Many applicants don't know:
Chinese embassies and consulates require hotel orders to cover the entire itinerary.
But accept booking confirmations that can be canceled free of charge.
It is recommended to use the Chinese interface of international platforms such as Booking.com to book.
Keep the complete English version of the booking confirmation email.
