The 2025 Grammy Awards, hosted for the fifth year in a row by the comedian Trevor Noah, were at the Crypto. com Arena in Los Angeles and will be televised live on CBS and Paramount+. The ceremony celebrated the best in music, with Beyoncé winning the coveted Album of the Year award for “Cowboy Carter.” That was a first win for the singer, who had previously been nominated four times for the award with no prize to show for it.
Beyoncé, who received an historic maximum of 11 nominations entering the night, also won Best Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for her contribution to “Cowboy Carter.” The cumulative 99 nominations she received during her career made her the most-nominated artist in Grammy history.
Other significant winners included Kendrick Lamar, who won all five categories in which he was nominated, including Record and Song of the Year, for “Not Like Us.” Chappell Roan won Best New Artist and Doechii won Best Rap Album for “Alligator Bites Never Heal.” Sabrina Carpenter won for Best Pop Vocal Album for “Short n’ Sweet,” while Shakira won for Best Latin Pop Album for “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.”
The ceremony also included appearances from musical hotshots Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Charli XCX and Sabrina Carpenter, and the surprise co-headlining of the evening: The Weeknd, who previously boycotted the award show. Taylor Swift, who awarded the Best Country Album prize to Beyoncé, was not part of the performance roster this year.
Along with celebrating musical achievements, the 2025 Grammys paid tribute to the recent deadly wildfires in the Los Angeles area. The host Trevor Noah urged viewers and corporate sponsors to donate to relief efforts, and the show included a segment highlighting local business owners who had lost their establishments in the fires. A group of Los Angeles County firefighters also were recognized on stage and received the audience’s standing ovation for their heroism.
This year's Grammy Awards ceremony was a celebration of musical excellence, as well as a tribute to the resilience and community of the Los Angeles area in the face of adversity.
