Nvidia has made an announcement on the company’s plan to invest $1B to build a Data Center, dedicated to AI, and is environmentally responsible. The new facility will be accommodated in the Nuevo León, in Northern Mexico, says Governor Samuel García.
The news was publicized by the Governor on social media along with the executives of Nvidia. The project also aims at positioning Mexico at a higher platform with regard to leveraging its AI infrastructure landscape.
Nvidia, through its new data center facility, targets to upgrade its computing infrastructure, in correspondence to the surge in global demand for AI infrastructure. The location chosen, Nuevo León, was a strategic decision made by the company as it provides enhanced logistics access to the markets of the United States. Nvidia has not revealed their operational details, however, they have released a label “green” to underline the fact that their operations follow an environment-friendly pattern hinting at their supposed use of renewable energy sources.
Nvidia has already partnered with OpenAI in a $100 Billion to deploy 100GW of compute power. Nvidia’s investment in Nuevo León is likely to benefit the landscape through improving employment opportunities, investments from global companies and enhancement in their tech industry. Despite these promises, like any major data center the new Nvidia facility will have to encounter hurdles such as ensuring proper and well-managed energy provision, approvals from the regulatory bodies, cooling demands and pressures related to the scheduling of the project.
