Insi Embeds Real Browser Testing into WordPress to Move Web Accessibility Beyond Annual Audits

How Insi Is Turning Web Accessibility Into a Daily WordPress Habit Instead of an Annual Crisis

Maintaining an accessible website is a persistent challenge for many organizations. Traditional methods—such as once-a-year audits and front-end overlays—fail to keep pace with the daily realities of website management. Because digital properties change constantly with new posts, page updates, and media uploads, reactive approaches leave websites difficult to use for people with disabilities and expose organizations to ongoing legal risks.

Insi has introduced a system that embeds accessibility directly into daily WordPress operations. Recently named a semifinalist in the 2026 Minnesota Cup High Tech Division, Insi was selected as one of 92 companies out of more than 1,200 applicants. This milestone increases the platform’s visibility among the agencies, nonprofits, universities, and government teams that require their digital spaces to work for everyone.

The Limitations of Audits and Overlays

According to Insi CEO Nicholas Longtin, treating accessibility as a static project is where most organizations fail. An annual audit provides a snapshot of a single moment; by the time the report is delivered, a site has typically changed with new plugins or an image uploaded on a Tuesday afternoon.

Similarly, quick-fix overlays—widgets bolted onto the front of a site—do not alter the underlying code. Users who rely on assistive technology, along with their advocates, report that overlays do not deliver actual access and can sometimes obstruct the user experience. Organizations end up paying for a product that creates the appearance of compliance without solving the core issues.

Insi operates on the premise that fixing accessibility problems is generally straightforward once the errors are visible. The actual difficulty lies in finding those errors continuously within the tools content teams already use.

Real Browser Testing Inside WordPress

To turn accessibility from an annual scramble into a daily habit, Insi runs entirely inside WordPress. Instead of waiting for a yearly review and a massive backlog of errors, teams receive automated testing as a normal part of their publishing rhythm. Issues are flagged immediately when a page is added, making them inexpensive and easy to correct while the content is still fresh.

Crucially, Insi utilizes real browser testing at scale. While standard scanners only read the underlying code, Insi renders the page exactly as a visitor’s browser would display it. This process catches visual and structural issues that code analysis misses, such as text placed over a video or image that renders the words unreadable on the screen.

History and Development

Insi was born directly out of agency work. Longtin and co-founder Eileen Noonan spent years building sites for nonprofits and government agencies at ArcStone, the web agency from which Insi eventually spun out. Noonan brought extensive experience in accessible development to the project.

The turning point occurred in 2015 when a large nonprofit client panicked after receiving a federal notice tying their grants to website accessibility. The ArcStone team found that while the WordPress fixes were simple, locating the errors required stitching together multiple incompatible tools. In 2016, the agency partnered with DeafBlind Services Minnesota to observe exactly how people with disabilities interact with the internet. Watching users struggle through popular websites moved the issue from an abstract requirement to a concrete necessity.

ArcStone subsequently built accessibility into every step of its development process. Unable to find a testing tool that fit their workflow, the team built their own in the 2020s and spun Insi out as a dedicated, opinionated platform: one that insists on real browser testing, lives inside WordPress, and treats accessibility as an ongoing practice.

Maintaining Compliance and Market Advantage

While Title II scrutiny and regulatory pressure have forced organizations to evaluate their sites, Insi notes that accessibility has permanently crossed over into a baseline expectation.

The platform helps organizations maintain compliance by testing against current best practices as standards evolve, preventing teams from having to track guidelines by hand. Longtin notes that no automated scanner can guarantee full compliance, as thorough accessibility always requires manual testing with assistive technology. However, by automating the discovery process, Insi ensures teams spend their time fixing and validating issues rather than hunting for them.

Furthermore, equal access and online visibility are becoming the exact same discipline. The structural elements required for screen readers—such as clean code, actual text, and clear labeling—are the exact data points that search engines and AI answer engines rely on to process information. In an era defined by GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and competitive SEO, an accessible site serves a larger market and ensures content is understood by modern search tools.

Insi is currently expanding through agency partnerships, putting its testing tools into the hands of professionals managing hundreds of sites. The platform's adoption highlights a shift in the industry: almost none of Insi’s subscribers switched from a competing tool. Only two customers replaced existing software (both overlays). The remainder of the user base is engaging in genuine, integrated accessibility work for the first time.
