Salesforce has announced its acquisition of data-management software company Informatica in an all-stock deal valued at $8 billion. Under the agreement, Informatica shareholders will receive $25 per share, marking an 11% premium over the previous closing price.
This strategic move aims to bolster Salesforce's AI strategy, particularly enhancing its Agentforce platform, amid growing competition in the generative AI space. Informatica's expertise in data classification and cleansing is expected to play a pivotal role in helping companies manage proprietary data for AI model training.
The acquisition builds upon an existing marketing partnership between the two companies. Analysts suggest that the deal could lead to a modest 1% revenue boost from AI products in Salesforce’s fiscal 2026.
Informatica, known for managing enterprise data across cloud and on-premise systems, serves major clients like Unilever and Toyota. The company was taken private in 2015 and went public again in 2021.
The transaction has been approved by both companies' boards and is expected to close early in Salesforce’s fiscal 2027.
