Why More Women Are Moving into the Construction Industry in Australia

— Many young women like to work with their hands, and they see building trades as secure careers.

Society is constantly in a state of change; you only need to look back at how things were 100 years ago to see that, and in this short blog, we take a look at the reasons why so many females are now working as tradies in the building sector.

Rising Cost of Living

It used to be traditional that the father of the family would go to work to put food on the table, while the woman would stay at home and look after the children, and that was the norm for many decades. Fast forward to 2025, and many families find it next to impossible to maintain their standard of living; therefore, both men and women work to be able to live their chosen lifestyle. Women have no restrictions; they can even shop online for ladies work shorts and other work clothing and safety equipment.

Trade Courses

Many Australian colleges offer courses in all building trades, including:

  • Carpentry
  • Bricklaying
  • Electrician
  • Plumbing
  • Plastering
  • Roofing

When you complete such a course, you are certified and are able to work in the construction sector, and wages are on a par with men. In most cases, you are paid for the contract, so there is no hourly rate and the faster you work, the more money you make. There are no restrictions at all for females, which is a reflection of how far we have come here in Australia.

Young People Are Looking for a Secure Career

Many young women like to work with their hands, and they see building trades as secure careers. People will always require shelter; therefore, there will always be a demand for tradies, and besides that, the pay is very high when compared to other occupations. The work is hard, but females are just as good (sometimes better) as men in that department, and they also have attention to detail, which shows when they work.

Gender Equality in Australia

We are leading the way when it comes to gender equality, and Aussie women are strong and very capable, which means they can compete with men in every department. Gender equality is something that Australian society has embraced and we hope this continues for many years.
