Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed again. Rockstar Games announced that the new release date is now set for November 19, 2026. It was originally supposed to come out in May 2026, after being pushed back from fall 2025.
Rockstar said they need more time to put the finishing touches on the game. They want to make sure it's polished and meets fans’ expectations. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), they apologized for the longer wait but explained that these extra months will help them deliver a better game.
So far, Rockstar has only shared two trailers for GTA 6. The latest one, released in May, gives a closer look at the story of Jason and Lucia, a crime partnership set in a city called Leonida. The trailer also shows glimpses of new characters and locations across the map. It’s been viewed over 100 million times.
Rockstar tends to take its time with big releases. Their last major game, Red Dead Redemption 2, was delayed by about a year. Fans expect huge, detailed worlds, and with rising costs of development, publishers are more careful about releasing unfinished games.
When GTA 6 finally comes out, it’s expected to be one of the most expensive games ever made. Some estimates suggest it could cost around $100 million to develop. For comparison, the previous game, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, released in 2004, cost about $65 million then—about $100 million today when adjusted for inflation. San Andreas was a massive hit, selling 12 million copies by 2005, but it was also heavily pirated, which helped spread its popularity even more.
