Los Angeles — Brandon Blackstock, music manager and former husband of pop star Kelly Clarkson, has died at the age of 48 after a prolonged battle with cancer. His family confirmed the news on August 6, stating that he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.

A respected figure in the country and pop music scenes, Blackstock managed prominent artists over the years, including Clarkson, Blake Shelton, and Rascal Flatts. He was also the stepson of country music legend Reba McEntire and the son of Narvel Blackstock, a longtime Nashville music producer. His passing marks the end of a decades-long career that saw him deeply involved in shaping the careers of multiple chart-topping artists.

Blackstock and Clarkson were married in 2013 after meeting in 2006 during Clarkson’s tour. Their union quickly became a fan-favorite love story and was immortalized in Clarkson’s emotional 2015 song Piece by Piece. The couple went on to have two children: daughter River Rose, now 11, and son Remington, age 9.

However, the couple divorced in 2022 following a lengthy and public legal process. Issues over spousal support, property division, and custody were widely reported, and despite the challenges, Clarkson has remained committed to co-parenting. In past interviews, she emphasized her desire to maintain stability for their children and to ensure they felt loved and supported by both parents.

In the days leading up to Blackstock’s death, Clarkson canceled the remainder of her Las Vegas “Chemistry” residency, prompting concern from fans. It has now been revealed that her decision was tied to Blackstock’s worsening health and her desire to be fully present with her children during his final moments.

Though the couple had been divorced for several years, those close to them say Clarkson played a supportive role during his final months. A source close to the family described her as “deeply compassionate” and “focused on the emotional well-being of their children.”

Blackstock is survived by four children, including two from a previous marriage, and one grandchild. His family’s official statement asked for privacy and thanked well-wishers for their kindness and support.

A private memorial service is expected to be held in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to cancer research foundations in his memory.

Brandon Blackstock leaves behind a legacy in the music industry and a family who loved him deeply. His passing is being mourned by colleagues, friends, fans, and a music community that recognized both his talent and his dedication.
