Meta, which was formerly referred to as Facebook, has left the arena of conversational AI with the release of Meta AI based on their largest language model Llama 3. Posing as a ubiquitous aid that transcends Meta's range, Meta AI intends to be the first-choice alternative for individuals who desire quick answers, assistance, or simply a digital companion.

Nevertheless, how does Meta AI fit in the wider field of conversational AI given its rapid development? Considering our informal evaluation, we realize that Meta AI allows accessibility and wide coverage across Meta's platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, etc., but this is where the power of these tools ends.

Meta AI is best known for copying the search results of web engines instead of contributing personal observations and interpretations. Although certain users may find it useful for answering simple questions, its use is to be questioned when fully interacting and offering complex understanding.

Apart from that, Meta AI is not skilled in a specific area of expertise but is inferior to certain specialized conversational AI models.

Despite the mentioned constraints, the strongest point of the Meta AI is its price which is free. Such affordability, availability on multifold platforms of Meta, and interfaces for casual users make it a convenient option.

Mark Zuckerberg's proclamation that the Meta AI will one day be the "most popular and top-notch AI personal assistant in the world" indicates that he has very high expectations. Nonetheless, that level of success can only be attained if Meta AI experiences breakthroughs in both performance and versatility.

While users make their way toward interaction with Meta AI, they may not be aware of it being the one who gradually replaces the traditional search boxes across Meta's platforms. Whether this widespread integration leads users to either increased interaction or irritation is a question that needs to be addressed.

Meta AI's debut is a preface to another participant in the conversational AI's dynamic scene. It may not be as powerful as the specialized ones but the accessibility and price point give it a strong position – although there is still room for improvement. As Meta goes on to perfect its AI features, the future of the Meta AI industry is just on the horizon.

The fact that Mark Zuckerberg has stated that Meta AI will turn into "the most used and best AI assistant around the globe" is putting too high hopes. Working towards this goal will entail extensive augmentation of Meta AI's capabilities and performance.
